Résumé : The "standard" models describing the inelastic and elastic electron interaction cross sections in solid targets are described and discussed here in a critical way. The importance of elastic collisions in AES and XPS is especially put in evidence (influence on the attenuation length, electron backscattering correction in AES,...). At last, a description of Auger- and photo-electron inelastic collisions concludes this theoretical study of the importance of electron interactions in AES and XPS.
