Résumé : This paper summarizes findings of several studies on food consumption in Central Africa and, against this background, examines some results of longitudinal studies of several groups of pregnant women and nursing women and their babies conducted in mother and child health centers. The collection of information on the nutritional state of mother and infant and on the development, morbidity, and mortality of children is one of the primary goals of the public health program in this area.
