Résumé : The Ultrafast and Fiber Optics group (UFO) of the Service d'Optique et d'Acoustique has initiated its activities 15 years ago. Starting from an original research topic limited to the study of dark solitons in optical fibers, it gradually deployed its field of interest to a large spectrum of subjects, ranging from complex femto- and picosecond event metrology to some fundamental aspects of nonlinear physics. However, all studied topics were selected in order to give the opportunity of possible future experimental demonstration and to offer potential applications in future all-optical information transmission and processing. The present paper briefly reviews the very last results obtained by the group in two of its major activity sectors : the study of nonlinear passive fiber cavities and the research on active fiber lasers.
