Résumé : In this paper the authors study the steady-state finite element simulation of synchronous machines. A recently proposed harmonic balance method is briefly described and applied to a salient-pole synchronous machine at noload. The frequency domain approach is shown to produce results that agree well with those obtained with plain time stepping, however with a reduction of the computation time. Particular attention is paid to the damping effect of the eddy currents in the solid poles.
