Résumé : Selected radioactive monosaccharides are currently under consideration as tools for the quantification of the endocrine pancreas by a non-invasive imaging procedure. In the present study, the participation of extracellular radioactivity in such measurement was assessed in normal rats injected intravenously with L-[1-14C]glucose. Three to ten minutes thereafter, the paired pancreas/plasma radioactive content averaged 188 ± 22nl/mg wet wt. The limitation imposed by such a situation is discussed in consideration of the mass of the endocrine pancreas (about one percent) relative to that of the pancreatic gland.
