| Résumé : | The Four-spotted Cave Ichneumon Wasp (Diphyus quadripunctorius) was elected Cave Animal of the Year 2017. This parasitic wasp is found in all of Europe and neighbouring regions. Especially the hibernating females are very conspicious, due to their characteristic yellow spots on the abdomen. The Four-spotted Cave Ichneumon Wasp depends obligatory on frost-free, subterranean refuges to survive the winter. This species is thus a prime example for a large number of animals, which are temporarily living in sheltered and frost-free cave systems. |
