Résumé : The osteology, morphology and coloration pattern of a new endemic bariliin species from the Malagarasi basin in East Central Africa are described. The osteological features of the species are similar to those described by Howes (1980) for the genus Opsaridium Peters, 1853. Opsaridium splendens sp. n. is characterized by an elongated body with a relatively long snout. Body silvery with 10 to 13 (in most specimens 12) dark transversal bars along the sides. 40 to 43 (+ 1-2) scales along the lateral line system. Gill rakers reduced, only 5-6 on the lower part of the anterior gill arch. Ventro-posterior process of preopercular bone weakly developed. A short comparaison with some other Central and East African bariliin species is given.
