Résumé : The P.A.S. reaction of the beta cells is not positive because of the glycoprotein hormones but because they contain lipoproteins. In fact, the beta cells could be corticotrophic cells: they degenerate after hypercorticism and are activated in conditions of adrenal insufficiency. Their participation in the secretion of ACTH was confirmed by cyto immunology but the latter has shown that they secrete other polypeptide hormones such as lipotropin and MSH. The cells with fine acidophilic granules which become hyperplasic in conditions of adrenal insufficiency could correspond to aminergic cells liable to play a regulating role on the beta cells.
