Résumé : RésuméL’article envisage Emitaï de Sembene Ousmane comme une « fiction pensante », c’est-à-dire comme une fiction nous invitant à re-penser le réel passé de façon critique, tant relativement à l’ancienne puissance coloniale qu’à la société africaine. Outre la question de savoir ce que ce film dit du passé – en comparaison avec l’historiographie, par exemple −, il importe d’en caractériser le comment afin de déterminer en quoi le traitement esthétique du matériau historiographique peut avoir une portée critique.AbstractThe article considers Emitaï by Ousmane Sembene as a “thinking fiction”, i.e. a fiction that invites its audience to re-visit the past critically, as regards both the old colonial power and the African society. Besides the question of what this film tells of the past – in comparison with history, for example –, it is important to characterize how it does so in order to determine how the aesthetic treatment of the past reality may have a critical goal.
