Résumé : The will to put down: the transnational genealogy of counter-insurgencyThis article aims at exploring the transnational component of the counterinsurgency genealogy. It begins by analyzing the classical European strategic model structuring function and its application in colonial warfare. Then, it puts emphasis on the transnational diffusion mechanisms of the counter-revolutionary and counterinsurgency practices from the cold war onwards. Lastly, it addresses the last re-articulations of the transnational genealogy between the end of the cold war and the contemporary conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
