| Résumé : | The maximum shear in a deformation for a pair of infinitesimal material line elements was discussed. Material elements tend to align themselves towards the direction of the greatest stretch. It was found that the pair of material elements suffering the maximum shear cannot lie in the same quadrant and cannot lie in two opposite quadrants. |
