Résumé : Schoten's osteological collection comprises 51 skeletons of known age and sex. The individuals, born between 1837 and 1916 and all died in 1931, were principally from the Antwerp area (Belgium). The article covers the collection's origins together with a description of the environmental, biodemographic, social and historical context of Schoten's population from 1830 to 1930. This is followed by a brief description of the main anthropometrical studies which have used the collection as their reference base. Finally, the ISC's potentiality is underlined. It is unusual in so far as the collection comprises a majority of elderly individuals, thereby allowing aging studies. Furthermore, some individuals' occupation is known such as for example a docker whose osteobiography has been studied.
