Résumé : Methylcyclopentane ring opening on EuroPt-1 has been studied at atmosphere pressure firstly by transient kinetic method. 2-methylpentane and 3-methylpentane give a similar response which significantly differs from n-hexane after suddenly introducing about 1.2 kPa methylcyclopentane to the reactor at 8 kPa hydrogen; the product ratio of 2-methylpentane to n-hexane changes with the time and a minimum value of 0.32 and 0.61 was observed at 458 K and 473 K, respectively. The results show that two parallel reactions are taking place; one producing n-hexane and the other forming 2-methylpentane and 3-methylpentane. Therefore the non-selective mechanism as proposed in the literature is questioned.
