Résumé : Thermal oxidation of polyethylene films, initiated by transition metal catalysts, has been studied in three different types of compost. It has been shown that the degradation is very slow in composts compared to the degradation of the same films in an oven at the same temperature (60-70°C). There are two main reasons for this: the low partial pressure of O2 in the wet composts and the leaching out or deactivation without leaching out of the catalysts. © 1994.
