Résumé : The kinetics of phagocytosis of bacteria and iron beads by i.p. rat macrophages were studied under various experimental conditions such as serum concentration, bacteria:macrophage ratio and temperature. Scanning electron microscopy observations support evidence for two phagocytic processes: a) a bacterial phagocytic process in which the adsorption is rate limiting and occurs at a limited site of ingestion is mediated through C3(b) receptors, and b) an iron bead phagocytic process occurs at any point on the membrane of the macrophage.
