Résumé : This paper explores the theoretical as well as the practical issues of the relationship between built heritage sites open to the public and tourism. A voice is given to owners, managers as well as to politicians and academics with the aid of a survey based on the Delphi technique. The theoretical approach is focussing on the actors' perception of the relationship and on the observed advantages and disadvantages of opening up heritage sites for visitors. The practical approach of concerns the physical damage that may occur due to the tourism as well as solutions and possibilities to protect the sites and/or prevent damage. Analysing these points as well as the actors' qualifications allows to identify important conflicts between respondent groups and permits to draw inferences for heritage management policies.
