Résumé : In several published studies, the author has shown the important role played by Dionysism and the Italians during the events of the Bellum Spartacium. This war, considered a "servile war" by the opinio romana, can be seen as a proper crusade against Rome. It is in this context that the course taken across Italy by the army of Spartacus can be explained : in fact, this route which is seemingly chaotic and haphazard, crosses in systematic fashion the regions which had been hostile to Rome since the Social War and also those where the largest and most active Dionysiac communities lived. It was there that Spartacus could expect to receive the support he needed for the success of his plan to bring about the downfall of Roman supremacy.
