Résumé : The authors present a retrospective study on the potential correlations between five footprint parameters and the Djian-Annonier's angle in the study of the plantar arch. One hundred and fifty eight patients were evaluated from January 1999 to September 2000. The five footprint parameters were as follows: the arch angle, the Chippaux-Smirak's index and Qamra's contact index 2, 3 and 4. The best correlation was obtained between the Djian-Annonier's angle and the Chippaux-Smirak's index. In 1937, Morton revealed that the anterior and posterior portions show little or no changes in both the normal and abnormal arch of the foot. The middle portion is representative of the foot arch. The authors recommend the use of the Djian-Annonier's angle and the Chippaux-Smirak's index because these two parameters have a good correlation and are simple to use in a daily practice. © Springer-Verlag 2004.
