Résumé : The thyrotropic activity of the thyrotropic hormones of teleosts and of the heterothyrotropic factors of mammals, measured on mammals in vivo, is very weak compared with their activity in teleosts. The present work shows that this relative inactivity is shown also with the isolated cells of the thyroid of the sheep. Using the organic binding of iodine as the variable, it has first been shown that the isolated cells are highly sensitive to b-TSH. Using a dosage interval at which the response increases with the dose, it has further been shown that the relative activities of b-TSH, TSH of the carp, and b-HTF are of the same order as found by in vivo measurements in the mouse. Thus the zoological specificity of the action of the preparations is exerted at the level of the thyroid gland. © 1968.
