Résumé : Using the results of an experiment conducted by them at a French psychiatric establishment (La Verrière, nr. Paris), the authors describe the radical changes that have come about during the last few decades in the duties and responsibilities of psychiatric nurses. The advanced courses in psychopathology that they now take at specialized schools fit them not only to administer biological treatment but also to take part in collective therapy ranging from motory re-education to group psychotherapy. The team-work that now forms part of their practical training is based on the principle of group dynamism and makes it easier for them to dominate the situations that arise, whilst encouraging them to take a greater interest in the social aspect of psychiatric problems. © 1965.
