Résumé : In the first part of the book, I propose a new interpretation of the enigmatic Pythagorean ἄκουσμα attested for the first time in Iamblichus, but generally considered as dating back to ancient Pythagoreanism: “What is the oracle of Delphi ? The tetractys; that is, the harmony in which the Sirens sing”. In the second part of my monograph, I discuss the harmony of the Sirens in Plato’s Republic X. Making a departure from the traditional interpretation of the myth of Er, I support the view that, for Plato, the song of the Sirens has a primarily psychological meaning.
