Résumé : By providing a large overview of the main theoretical and empirical works pertainingto the analysis of social networks, the purpose of the work is four-fold.First, it seeks to understand the emergence of SNA in social sciences byidentifying its historical forerunners as well as their basic contributions.Second, it aims at bridging the theoretical and methodological views on theissue of social networks.Third, as far as the methodological implications are concerned, the objective isalso to consider the use of mixed methods design, while SNA is most of the timeconducted in quantitative fashion.The fourth goal is to assess both theoretical and methodological uses of SNAin political science in order to demonstrate how the network perspective might bedefinitely useful in the future when studying political parties, political participationand politics in general.
