Résumé : The dynamical transition affecting parametric solitary waves owing to the effects of dispersion on their constituent interacting waves was analytically studied using an original extension of the Kolmogorov-Petrovskii-Piskunov (KPP) approach to front propagation into unstable states. It was found that the transition results from a competition between the pole associated with the exponential front of the solitary wave and the saddle point introduced by dispersion into the linearized problem. Further, evidence indicate that this phenomenon is ubiquitous in physics.
