Résumé : This paper discusses the spatial filtering in structural control by means of distributed PVDF films. A one-sided electrode with a honeycomb motif of variable porosity is used to tailor the effective piezoelectric properties of the film. The paper examines the design of the porous electrode for isotropic as well as orthotropic PVDF to achieve the desired spatial filtering properties, and validates the design with the manufacturing and testing of a volume displacement sensor. The technology for constructing transparent sensors is also examined. © 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
