Résumé : We suggest that in a halo nucleus, the β-decay of a core may lead to the formation of a product nucleus with a similar cluster structure. As an example, the β-decay of 14Be (= 12Be+n+n) is considered. Calculations of the 14B spectrum within the generator coordinate method (GCM) predict the existence of 0+, 1+ and 2+ narrow states having a 12B+n+n structure and located near the two-neutron threshold. As follows from the calculations, the β-decay of 14Be to the 1+ state mainly occurs when two halo neutrons stay far away from the core. © 1996 IOP Publishing Ltd.
