Résumé : Until recently little theoretical attention has been paid to the translation of metaphor. Various possibilities can be found along a continuum ranging from total translatability to total untranslatability. Creative use of metaphor in the target language may have to be tested for equivalence with the source language metaphor. A method is suggested, based on Osgood's semantic association.
