Résumé : The clinical trial was run in order to evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of 100 mg Voltaren suppositories. The method chosen was a double blind, within patient comparison with indomethacin. The patients selected were suffering from arthrosis of the spine, hip or knee. They received as only drug treatment one 100 mg suppository h.s. The duration of the trial treatment was 4 wk. During the first 2 wk the patients received 1 of 2 drugs, during the last 2 wk the other one, the distribution being randomized. The results bearing on 64 observations show that the suppositories brought relief of pain and stiffness in the majority of the patients and that there was no significant difference between the effects of Voltaren and indomethacin. General unwanted effects were seldom reported. Regarding the local tolerance, there were more often complaints with the Voltaren suppositories. In order to improve this, the base of the suppositories used for the present trial was changed by switching in the definitive formulation from Witepsol W 35 to Novata 299.
