Résumé : In this paper the study of the statistical mechanics of irreversible processes in linear assemblies with nearest neighbours interactions is continued. Some specific examples of perturbations (perturbation of the distribution of velocities and of the partition of the total energy between the kinetic and the potential energies) are studied in some detail. Although several interesting results can be deduced, it is shown that the Born-Green scheme, based only on the recurrence relations and the superposition principle, can not describe dissipative effects. This is particularly clear in the case of thermal conduction. In this case the inhomogeneous equation for the double distribution function is shown to have no stationary solutions, nor solutions which admit a mean value in time. The extension of this result to ordinary three dimensional systems is indicated. © 1953.
