Résumé : A new expression for the frequency dependance of dielectric constants has been derived from Onsager's static model. The treatment is based upon the assumption that the cavity field is not in phase with the applied alternating field which implies a phase‐shift of the rotating dipole with respect to both of them. The formulas that have been obtained show that Debye's simple relation between relaxation time and critical frequency ωc=1/τ is but a particular case of a more general one, ωc=β.1/τ, where β depends essentially on the value of the static dielectric constant, being 1 when ϵ0 and ϵ∞ are of the same order of magnitude and about 0.75 when ϵ0 » ϵ∞.
