Résumé : The examination of ∼90 cyclobutanic substances, in the I.R. region of 900‐950 cm−1, indicates that all the components possessing at least one cyclic CH2‐group, free of substitution, presents 1 to 3 absorption bands; one of them at least belonging likely to the vibration γr (CH2). It would thus be easy to recognize the existence of a C4‐ring in such components if there was not the fact, that a great number of non cyclobutanic derivatives also absorb in this region. This work, together with the one of C.H.F. Allen and Coll. permits to close the series of works concerning the direct correlations: I.R., reactions of the alicyclic ring. Except for definite cyclanones, spectroscopy admits only suppositions with regard to the size of the ring. Copyright © 1961 Wiley‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim
