Résumé : Conformational equilibrium of cyclohexanol is studied by infra‐red spectroscopy. The intensity of the ν(C–O) absorptions of cyclohexanol is compared to that of the ν(C–O) bands of cis and trans‐4‐cyclohexyl‐cyclohexanol. The ν(C—O) absorption intensity of cis and trans‐4‐tertiobutylcyclohexanol is also taken into account. All the ν(C–O) absorptions are localized by solvent effects on the absorption bands in the ν(C–O) region. The conformational equilibrium of cyclohexanol is shown to be largely independent of the medium and may contain, at ordinary temperature, about 60 to 65% of the equatorial conformer.
