Résumé : Critical Notes on Elegies IV, 4 and IV, 5 of Propertius - This paper proposes emendations or new interpretations for eight passages in Elegies 4 and 5 of Propertius' Book IV where the paradosis has been considered corrupt or problematic by some, if not all, philologists: IV, 4, 33-34, IV, 4, 53-58, IV, 4, 71-78, IV, 4, 83-84, IV, 5,11-12, IV, 5, 27-36, IV, 5,47-48, IV, 5, 67-70. In each case, the discussion begins with a systematic summary of the issue in question. Next, we show that the emendation or interpretation suggested conforms to the constraints of meter and/or language, and (in some cases at least) that it sheds some light on the symbolic or intertextual dimension of the passage at hand. When recourse is made to conjecture, the paper provides an account of the corruption process that presumably operated, with the aim of establishing the palaeographical verisimilitude of the correction proposed.
