Résumé : The prostheses implanted on the urinary tract are divided in ureteral prosthesis, prosthesis of the bladder and urethra prosthesis. After reviewing all different kinds of materials, the author analyses in detail the silicone ureteral prosthesis. The experimental researches collected in the literature and the author's work have resulted in some definite properties required for the ureteral prosthesis. As far as the clinical application is concerned, 88 patients have benefited of the ureteral prosthesis in silicone elastomer with a good result in 56 cases. The ureteral prosthesis allows to avoid an external urinary diversion in the cases of pelvic neoplasm obstructing the ureters. Some ureteral replacements have been exceptionally performed in cases of retroperitoneal fibrosis and tuberculosis. The bladder prosthesis in silicone presents some difficulties concerning the storage and the continency of urine. The last researches give hope to find such a bladder prosthesis. Human application remains experimental. The silicone urethral prosthesis is used with good results, but in a very few clinical situations. The urethral prosthesis serves in fact, as a splint for the reair of the urethra.
