Résumé : The authors investigated the heart frequency during a submaximal effort with the arms on a bicycle ergometer, the vital capacity, the spatial organisation, the spread attention and the mental picture of walking by paraplegics, men and women practicing a sport activity (Sp.) or not (NSp.). They were compared with a group of sedentary normal subjects (Sed.). The results show that the paraplegics who don't practice sport have lower scores in each test concerned than sedentary people, while the paraplegics involved in sport processes have similar scores to those obtained by sedentary normal population. Concerning the psychomotor factors the Sp. group scores are higher than the NSp. group. We also assessed that it is the synthesis of the walk reeducation and the sport practice which permits the paraplegics to retain a mental picture of walking comparable with that of normal people. Thus it is very important to promote the regular practice of a sport activity in paraplegic groups.
