Résumé : The modern tourist explosion is having a profound effect on the natural environment of the Belgian coast. Combined with the effects of fast-moving technical and economic development, tourism may damage the better part of the amenities for which it exists. Fortunately, tourism reflects such deep-felt human needs that it is itself becoming the most active agent of scientific protection of the environment.
