Résumé : Stereotaxic implantations of 5 μg testosterone isobutyrate (Perandrone, Ciba), 1 μg oestradiol benzoate (ovocycline, Ciba) or, as control, 10 μg cholesterol were performed in the hypothalamus of castrated male rats. The effects of the steroids on plasma and pituitary gonadotropins (FSH and LH) were studied by radioimmunoassay. The results indicated that, in the male rat, the preoptic area is able to control synthesis and secretion of both gonadotropins, and that it is sensitive to estradiol and testosterone.
