Résumé : The radiological and clinical symptomatology of the obstructive syndrome which occurred in 10 patients during the evolution of a neoplastic affection was analyzed and compared with the surgical findings. Abdominal syndromes encountered in neoplastic affections which are treated yet still evolving, are characterized by their complexity. This is due to the interweaving of the causative factors, the most frequent being: the evolution or recurrence of the primary neoplasm, the metastases and the complications resulting from the radiological surgical treatments. The abdominal X-rays taken without preparation are often helpful, but rarely give precise information concerning the level or etiology of the trouble. Barium enemas investigate the colonic region without great risk of complications, but the discovery of a lesion does not exclude an adjacent pathology in the small intestine. If a surgical intervention is planned in the near future, barium studies would appear to be contra-indicated. This examination must be realized when the etiology of a sub-obstruction remains obscure, or when determination of the extension of the lesions in the small intestine is necessary in determining the surgical alternatives. In our experience, however, barium transit has revealed itself susceptible to aggravating the obstructive syndrome.
