Résumé : In the hypothalamic region of the rat, SEM and TEM have shown oligociliated zones with large apical projections of cytoplasm, which may be zones of transport of components from the ventricles towards the underlying tissue. This is particularly apparent at the apex of the tanycytes, with rounded cytoplasmic projections and numerous microvilli, in the 'hypophyseotrophic' area. Similar findings are reported in man. Autopsy specimens show an excellent preservation of the surface structures, and display a complex mosaic of ciliated and non-ciliated cells, similar to those observed in the rat.
