Résumé : Highly purified globin messenger RNA has been isolated from the erythropoietic spleen of anemic rabbits. This RNA, which sediments at 9 S, directs the synthesis of α and β rabbit globin chains in a Krebs II ascites cell free system. Globin accounts for more than 90% of the cell free synthesized proteins. Spleen 9 S RNA is however, about 30% less effective on a weight basis than blood reticulocyte 9 S RNA in directing globin synthesis in the cell free system. When analyzed on polyacrylamide gels, spleen 9 S RNA is somewhat more heterogeneous in size than blood reticulocyte 9 S RNA. Spleen globin mRNA contains a polyadenylic segment which is at least as long as the poly(A) tract of globin mRNA from blood reticulocytes.
