Résumé : Treatment of high blood pressure has considerably postponed the development of heart failure in these patients. The repercussions of high blood pressure on the heart first consist in diastolic dysfunction of the left ventricle and then in the development of left ventricular hypertrophy. Diuretics and angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors are to be considered as the drugs of first choice in these patients. In the future, beta-blockers could play an important role in the management in some categories of patients.
