Résumé : The author studied 2 groups of patients: those which are characterised by the presence of at least one case of identical pathology in the immediate family and those others in whose cases the families are not involved. The statistics prove that the first group is probably of a monogenic origin; the second group a polygenic origin. They thus probably comply with different pathogenic factors. Finally, the clinical difference between the 2 types of manic depressive psychosis is analysed. The cases of monogenic origin of early onset, probably with psychotic symptoms, especially during manic phases are often sent into hospital in the first episode. The cases of polygenic origin respond less well to lithium salts. (Cordier - Brussels)
