Résumé : Families have within them absent third parties, either because they are far removed from their own, either because they died. Some of them remain, however, nodal third. The use of seats as a metaphor for their absence, their place and the importance they still have turns out to be very rich. This article presents a reflection on the essence and effect of this metaphor in psychotherapy and from there explore the richness of metaphors.
