Résumé : During the oxidation of copper there is always a competition between the formation of surface oxide and its dissolution in the metal. The decrease in the partial pressure of oxygen favors the dissolution of the oxide which can even completely disappear while at its temperature of formation. This dissolved oxygen modifies the subsequent behaviour of the metal. It provokes a decrease in the incubation time for nucleation which permits identification of this as the time necessary for the superficial saturation of the metal in oxygen. The beginning of nucleation could be a precipitation of the oxide. © 1962.
