An optical model approach to the elastic scattering of electrons by H(2s)

Résumé :

The optical model is applied to the elastic scattering of electrons from the metastable 2s state of atomic hydrogen. Polarisation effects are found to be very small compared with those arising from absorption. Calculations are performed at 200 and 400 eV, and demonstrate that the optical model can predict reliable results at all values of the momentum transfer, in contrast to perturbative calculations.
