Résumé : The latissimus dorsi flap was used for breast reconstruction in 56 cases out of a series of 246, performed from january 1977 to november 1983. These 56 cases had a low rate of complication, a short hospitalization time and an usually good cosmetic result. Technical refinements which have improved the results are analyzed and the indications of latissimus flap reconstruction are compared to the other techniques. At the present time the latissimus dorsi is preferred to the other flaps (low or upper rectus admoninis flaps) because it is simpler and more reliable.
