Résumé : The structure of a new saponin extracted from Bersama yangambiensis was determined by NMR and mass spectrometry of the permethylated derivative. The sapogenin, identified as oleanolic acid, is linked in position 3β to a chain composed of β-d-glucoronopyranosyl (4 → 1)-O-β-d-glucopyranosyl (4 → 1) O-β-d-xylopyranosyl (4 → 1) O-β-l-arabinopyranose, and in position 28 by one molecule of β-d-glucopyranose. The saponin, although complex, is easily identified by the proposed methods which constitute a good method for the identification and the structural elucidation of a saponin. © 1972.
