Résumé : Ten years after starting a therapeutic nursery, we assessed the first 25 children admitted for developmental disorders. Questions raised concerned the present development of the psychic functions of the children, their learning abilities and their familial and social relationships. We aimed at defining the psychotherapeutic value of the children's integration in the therapeutic nursery programme, and we attempted to envision the improvements that may derive from the present evaluation. We observed a deterioration of the depressive traits combined to a narcissic failure. The depressive evolution appeared related to a persistent defective environment and therefore to the difficulty to find necessary psychic supports. Another observation was the frequent evolution towards a mental retardation. A less prominent psychotic destructuration observed in this follow-up study suggests that care at the therapeutic nursery allowed a beneficial structuring internalisation in several children. A majority of the children presently follows adapted school programmes and does not require care in psychiatric institution. © 2006 Elsevier SAS. All rights reserved.
