Résumé : We propose a new method to calculate the second Born amplitude for electron- or positron-atom collisions, which uses B-spline basis sets. The method is applied to the direct 1s to 1s and 1s to 2s transitions in atomic hydrogen, for which exact second Born results are available: We find that with a modest amount of computational effort accurate values for the second Born amplitude can be obtained. © 1995 IOP Publishing Ltd.
