Résumé : 78 patients with severe and chronic insomnia who had taken barbiturates for long periods, in combination with neuroleptics or tranquillizers, received rohypnol without any transition. In 20 patients a double blind study revealed the clear superiority of RO 5 4200 over barbiturates and placebos. In the other 58, administration of 2-4 mg daily for 12 mth led to excellent and good results in 86% without discontinuance of treatment because of side effects. In 8 out of 10 cases Ro 5 4200 was preferred to the barbiturate sedative combination.
