Résumé : The main purpose of the paper is to present an overview of the current situation in the development of the understanding of the mechanism of high- Tc superconductivity which arises due to moderately strong, nonlinear electron-phonon interactions and due to spin fluctuations. The former are responsible for electron pairing, and the latter mediate the phase coherence. In addition, a key experiment for superconductivity in cuprates is proposed. © 2001 Plenum Publishing Corporation.
